In 2016, the first artist self-portrait exhibition was held and was one of the most successful exhibitions in the Gallery’s history. That first exhibition brought nearly 90 artists together and showcased a vast range of styles and approaches.

For the 2026 exhibition, the field has blossomed to over 140 artists. This vast array of portraits are sure to elicit curiosity for viewers and provide entertainment for all who visit the exhibition.

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program 2027-28 competition is underway!
Fulbright U.S. Scholar Awards give opportunities to U.S. citizens to teach, research and carry out professional projects around the world.

In this webinar, we will highlight a selection of the 2027–28 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Partnership Awards, including opportunities for applicants at all career levels, from postdoctoral/early-career to senior academics, and share tips for connecting with overseas host institutions. Partnership Awards are co-sponsored by institutions that are actively interested in hosting a Fulbright Scholar on their campus. These awards are especially appealing because they take some of the guesswork out of finding a host institution, and many of these institutions have welcomed Fulbright Scholars to their local communities for years.

In addition to briefly highlighting some of these Partnership Awards, we will also share tips and strategies for connecting with overseas host institutions. These suggestions will be helpful both for applicants exploring Partnership Awards and for those applying to awards that allow applicants to propose their own host institution. The webinar will conclude with a brief live question & answer session.

While self-portraiture serves as the foundation of the exhibition, the work explores broader themes of identity, change, and the creative process.

A graduate of Smoky Valley High School and Fort Hays State University, Hammerschmidt currently serves as Art Services Coordinator for the City of Salina Arts & Humanities Department and continues to exhibit her work throughout Kansas and the surrounding region.

Brimhall is a poet living and working in Manhattan. She is the current Poet Laureate of Kansas and teaches creative writing at Kansas State University. Traci is the author of five collections of poetry and a forthcoming essay collection. Her poetry has been called “unrelenting, incisive, and tender.”

Patient History, her current project, explores the intersection between disability and ecopoetics, offers a unique perspective that blends the two. As part of her creative process, Brimhall has also been exploring the book arts as a way to connect physical, literary, and visual modes of creation. Brimhall carries these small books with her in hopes of meeting inspiration while on the move and in nature. These pocket-sized objects help her combine the physical process of walking with the physical process of writing.

As part of her work as the Kansas Poet Laureate, Brimhall has sought to “bring the nourishment of language to all Kansans,” an endeavor that continues during her residency. On August 12, 5:30-7:30pm, Brimhall will lead a book arts workshop and teach everyone how to make a small pocket journal they can have with them for the poetry walk. Traci will lead a walk and write session in Riverside Park where participants will walk trails and pause to read poems and write lines. The afternoon workshop is designed for ages 15 and older. Participants will learn to transform recycled popcorn tins into beautiful handcrafted decorations. Choose to create classic tin stars, charming angels, or unique tree toppers that can become treasured holiday keepsakes or thoughtful handmade gifts.

The workshop fee is $25, and all skill levels are welcome. Basic supplies will be provided; however, supplies are limited. Participants are encouraged to bring Wiss aviation snips, small needle-nose pliers, and clean popcorn tins to use during the workshop.

Responsible gambling requires setting time and budget limits and sticking to them. Avoid trying to win back losses and make it a rule not to gamble on credit. Don’t use gambling to relieve stress.

McPherson County FCE’s are hosting a public meeting in conjunction with Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services to provide information about gambling. The meeting will be held on Monday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the McPherson County Extension Office, 600 W Woodside, McPherson, KS. Hosting the meeting are Canton Dizzy Dames FCE of Canton, Happy Homemakers FCE of McPherson and Kettle Queens FCE of Moundridge.

Information will be available at the meeting about why people gamble, gambling and the brain, history of gambling, and free resources available to help stop gambling.

Spanning more than twenty years of artistic practice, Exposed: A Retrospective brings together self-portraits, printmaking, paintings, sculpture, mixed media, and experimental works that document Hammerschmidt's growth as both an artist and observer. While self-portraiture serves as the foundation of the exhibition, the work explores broader themes of identity, change, and the creative process.

A graduate of Smoky Valley High School and Fort Hays State University, Hammerschmidt currently serves as Art Services Coordinator for the City of Salina Arts & Humanities Department and continues to exhibit her work throughout Kansas and the surrounding region.

In 2016, the first artist self-portrait exhibition was held and was one of the most successful exhibitions in the Gallery’s history. That first exhibition brought nearly 90 artists together and showcased a vast range of styles and approaches.

For the 2026 exhibition, the field has blossomed to over 140 artists. This vast array of portraits are sure to elicit curiosity for viewers and provide entertainment for all who visit the exhibition.

Brimhall is a poet living and working in Manhattan. She is the current Poet Laureate of Kansas and teaches creative writing at Kansas State University. Traci is the author of five collections of poetry and a forthcoming essay collection. Her poetry has been called “unrelenting, incisive, and tender.”

Patient History, her current project, explores the intersection between disability and ecopoetics, offers a unique perspective that blends the two. As part of her creative process, Brimhall has also been exploring the book arts as a way to connect physical, literary, and visual modes of creation. Brimhall carries these small books with her in hopes of meeting inspiration while on the move and in nature. These pocket-sized objects help her combine the physical process of walking with the physical process of writing.

As part of her work as the Kansas Poet Laureate, Brimhall has sought to “bring the nourishment of language to all Kansans,” an endeavor that continues during her residency. On August 12, 5:30-7:30pm, Brimhall will lead a book arts workshop and teach everyone how to make a small pocket journal they can have with them for the poetry walk. A full day workshop, the morning session focuses on printmaking techniques, color, and building successful compositions. After a lunch break, participants will spend the afternoon creating their own monotypes with individual instruction and guidance as needed.

Whether you enjoy abstract imagery or representational art, monotype printing offers a loose, experimental approach that welcomes creative exploration. Click here for more information and to register for this workshop.

Spanning more than twenty years of artistic practice, Exposed: A Retrospective brings together self-portraits, printmaking, paintings, sculpture, mixed media, and experimental works that document Hammerschmidt's growth as both an artist and observer. While self-portraiture serves as the foundation of the exhibition, the work explores broader themes of identity, change, and the creative process.

A graduate of Smoky Valley High School and Fort Hays State University, Hammerschmidt currently serves as Art Services Coordinator for the City of Salina Arts & Humanities Department and continues to exhibit her work throughout Kansas and the surrounding region.

In 2016, the first artist self-portrait exhibition was held and was one of the most successful exhibitions in the Gallery’s history. That first exhibition brought nearly 90 artists together and showcased a vast range of styles and approaches.

For the 2026 exhibition, the field has blossomed to over 140 artists. This vast array of portraits are sure to elicit curiosity for viewers and provide entertainment for all who visit the exhibition.

Brimhall is a poet living and working in Manhattan. She is the current Poet Laureate of Kansas and teaches creative writing at Kansas State University. Traci is the author of five collections of poetry and a forthcoming essay collection. Her poetry has been called “unrelenting, incisive, and tender.”

Patient History, her current project, explores the intersection between disability and ecopoetics, offers a unique perspective that blends the two. As part of her creative process, Brimhall has also been exploring the book arts as a way to connect physical, literary, and visual modes of creation. Brimhall carries these small books with her in hopes of meeting inspiration while on the move and in nature. These pocket-sized objects help her combine the physical process of walking with the physical process of writing.

As part of her work as the Kansas Poet Laureate, Brimhall has sought to “bring the nourishment of language to all Kansans,” an endeavor that continues during her residency. On August 12, 5:30-7:30pm, Brimhall will lead a book arts workshop and teach everyone how to make a small pocket journal they can have with them for the poetry walk. Traci will lead a walk and write session in Riverside Park where participants will walk trails and pause to read poems and write lines. Its target audience is researchers who have little to no prior computational experience, and its lessons are domain-specific, building on learners' existing knowledge to enable them to quickly apply skills to their own research. Brimhall is a poet living and working in Manhattan. She is the current Poet Laureate of Kansas and teaches creative writing at Kansas State University. Traci is the author of five collections of poetry and a forthcoming essay collection. Her poetry has been called “unrelenting, incisive, and tender.”

Patient History, her current project, explores the intersection between disability and ecopoetics, offers a unique perspective that blends the two. As part of her creative process, Brimhall has also been exploring the book arts as a way to connect physical, literary, and visual modes of creation. Brimhall carries these small books with her in hopes of meeting inspiration while on the move and in nature. These pocket-sized objects help her combine the physical process of walking with the physical process of writing.

As part of her work as the Kansas Poet Laureate, Brimhall has sought to “bring the nourishment of language to all Kansans,” an endeavor that continues during her residency. On August 12, 5:30-7:30pm, Brimhall will lead a book arts workshop and teach everyone how to make a small pocket journal they can have with them for the poetry walk. Traci will lead a walk and write session in Riverside Park where participants will walk trails and pause to read poems and write lines. Doll is an artist living in Manhattan, who works mostly in watercolor and acrylic. Working as the director of the Center of Aging at Kansas State University for over 20 years, now in semi-retirement, Doll has picked up painting again working with watercolor and acrylic.

Visitors to the Red Barn will delight in the joyous and exuberant colors of the pieces that Doll is working on in the studio. Despite, or maybe because of, her colorblindness, Doll finds herself drawn to vibrant colors on the canvas. As an artist, she has been inspired by the patterns and designs of quilts using unique application practices in order to invite texture into her paintings. In her recent work, Doll has been exploring these techniques and plans to spend her time at the Red Barn continuing to develop them and explore the possibilities they allow for her paintings to bloom.

This will be Doll's third residency at the Red Barn Studio. The most exciting thing, as she has learned during her time here, has been meeting the artists and visitors who come to see her at the studio—meeting new people energizes her to try new things!

Spanning more than twenty years of artistic practice, Exposed: A Retrospective brings together self-portraits, printmaking, paintings, sculpture, mixed media, and experimental works that document Hammerschmidt's growth as both an artist and observer. While self-portraiture serves as the foundation of the exhibition, the work explores broader themes of identity, change, and the creative process.

A graduate of Smoky Valley High School and Fort Hays State University, Hammerschmidt currently serves as Art Services Coordinator for the City of Salina Arts & Humanities Department and continues to exhibit her work throughout Kansas and the surrounding region.

Doll is an artist living in Manhattan, who works mostly in watercolor and acrylic. Working as the director of the Center of Aging at Kansas State University for over 20 years, now in semi-retirement, Doll has picked up painting again working with watercolor and acrylic.

Visitors to the Red Barn will delight in the joyous and exuberant colors of the pieces that Doll is working on in the studio. Despite, or maybe because of, her colorblindness, Doll finds herself drawn to vibrant colors on the canvas. As an artist, she has been inspired by the patterns and designs of quilts using unique application practices in order to invite texture into her paintings. In her recent work, Doll has been exploring these techniques and plans to spend her time at the Red Barn continuing to develop them and explore the possibilities they allow for her paintings to bloom.

This will be Doll's third residency at the Red Barn Studio. The most exciting thing, as she has learned during her time here, has been meeting the artists and visitors who come to see her at the studio—meeting new people energizes her to try new things!

The Meadowlark March is an untimed event and will take place on uneven ground, inclines, and narrow sections. It is not recommended for wheelchairs or those with significant mobility limitations. This march is meant for reflection; participants can walk, run, or "ruck," but it is not a race.

Trained service animals, as defined by the ADA, are welcome. No pets or bicycles are allowed.

There is also a shorter family friendly "reflective walk" that is just 2.2 miles that begins at 10am and ends in the park. Registration begins at 9am. This is a loop route and does not require any transportation from the park. Walk, jog, or bring a trail friendly stroller. No bikes please. Upon returning to Riverside Park there will be some fun treats for all our walk participants courtesy of the Lindsborg Old Mill & Swedish Heritage Museum. The registration for this event does not include a t-shirt but there is an option to purchase adult sizes.

A Student Athletic Pass is required for this event. Students with an Athletic Pass must claim a ticket in advance to football and men's basketball regular season home games.

Possession of a K-State Student Athletic Pass does not guarantee admission and allows full-time students the opportunity to request tickets for football and men's basketball games. Pass holders are required to claim a ticket in advance and tickets can be limited based on capacity, projected attendance, an individual's previous attendance, and other factors. Once a ticket has been claimed, it cannot be transferred or sold to other fans, including other students. Seating is first-come, first-served general admission.
