Anyone with an interest in horticulture can apply for the Extension Master Gardener Program if it is active in your county. If you want to improve your skills and knowledge and you like to work with people, the Extension Master Gardener Program may be for you.

Requirements

  • You need to be available for 40 hours of volunteering during the first year after your training and 30 hours of volunteering and 10 hours of advanced education thereafter.
  • You must have at least a High School Diploma or the equivalent.
  • Enjoy sharing your love of gardening with others through various Extension Master Gardener projects.

For 2021:  Classes start Tuesday, August 31st 4:00 - 6:00 pm. Thereafter, classes meet online Thursday afternoons starting from September 2nd: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm until December, 16th. Class will not meet 11/11 or 11/25. Additional dates for in-person training: 8/31 (4-6pm); 9/25 (9-12pm); 10/5 (4-6pm); 10/19 (4-6pm); 11/2 (4-6pm); 11/9 (2-4pm). August 27, 2021 is the deadline for registration and payment and participation is limited. Topics include botany, soils, native plants, vegetable growing, woody and grassy ornamentals, fruit production, turf management, nuisance wildlife, and much more. 

Volunteer opportunities include working in our demonstration gardens, helping others on the horticulture hotline, working with kids through our library and school programs, and participating in our public education programs.
