4-H Shooting Sports - State Hunting Skills Exposition
The Hunting Skills State Committee is excited to present a statewide educational event in 4-H Hunting Skills. This is not a competition or contest event. There will be a Field Day open to 4-Hers age 9-18 on September 23, 8:30-1:30 pm at Geary County Sportsman Acre - Milford Lake, K244 Spur, Junction City, Kansas. Live-Fire and enrollment in the Hunting Skills 4-H project is NOT a requirement to participate in non-live-fire programs at this event. This statewide event will be limited to 40 4-Hers.
This is the perfect opportunity to explore this project and find out more about it. Hunting Skills, like all 4-H Shooting Sports projects does require a Discipline Certified Instructor. If your Extension Unit is considering having an instructor trained or if you have a current Hunting Skills Instructor, this will be a great opportunity to come find out more about the project.
The day will include a sampling of Hunter Knowledge, Wildlife ID, Maps and Compass mixed in with hunting scenarios and live-fire ranges (only for those who are signed off safe for that discipline by their County Coordinator in Shotgun, Rifle, and/or Archery). Ear and eye protection will be required at times, please bring your own. Closed Shoes with no open holes or toes are required for live-fire participation. There will be opportunities to learn about trapping, tree stand harness safety, and there will be a dutch oven cooking sampler. Please see the bulletin attached.
