About this Event
Quiz Bowl Club, a registered independent student organization, invites the K-State community to join us for the Feb. 25 mirror of ACRONYM 16.
ACRONYM is a low-difficulty pop culture question set accessible to all skill levels. This is an open tournament, meaning that anyone can compete, even if they are not affiliated with a collegiate quiz bowl team. A general division is being offered for those unfamiliar with the pyramidal quiz bowl format but still excited about pop culture trivia. The team size is up to four individuals, and advance registration is required to ensure there is enough staff and space to run the tournament.
The registration deadline is 11:59 p.m. Feb. 18. Please have your team registered before the deadline.
The $20 per person entry fee goes toward the cost of the question set, and the rest of the proceeds directly benefit the Quiz Bowl Club. Club funds cover entry into academic tournaments across the country, and travel expenses.
The tournament will start at 9 a.m. on Feb. 25 in Calvin Hall. More information and details will be sent out following registration, closer to the tournament date.
What To Expect:
This tournament is using a quizbowl question set (ACRONYM 16) and will be following the quizbowl format as well as rules. Participants should not feel obligated to be an expert on these rules prior to the tournament, but being familiar will help. A typical quizbowl tournament lasts from 9 am to about 4-5 pm with a break for lunch. Rounds typically last 45 minutes, with some preliminary rounds followed by playoff rounds.
For this general division, we plan to do an abbreviated version of the tournament structure. We plan to start briefing the general division teams on the rules at 9:30 am, with rounds starting at 10 am. We plan tentatively on playing 3 rounds before lunch and 3 rounds after lunch, this can be adjusted based on interest. Teams are under no obligation to stay the whole time, that being said, we will have plenty of questions, so interested teams can play as long as they like.
We strive for this "general" bracket to be a fun, low-stakes introduction to the quizbowl format.
Do not hesitate to reach out to the tournament director with any questions.
