M-seminar: Topological Mirror Symmetry

Speaker: Helge Ruddat (University of Hamburg)

Abstract: The famous slogan "mirror symmetry is T-duality" means that the mirror dual to a Calabi-Yau manifold can be found by dualizing a torus fibration of it. In practice, there is a big difficulty in doing so when the torus fibers becomes singular and singular fibers cannot be avoided for topological reasons. I am reporting on joint work with Ilia Zharkov where we deform the torus fibration so that the singular fibres lie over a codimension two set in the base which then enables the T-duality construction and thus proves the topological mirror symmetry conjecture.
