About this Event
View mapThe Department of Interior Architecture and Industrial Design (IAID) at Kansas State University invites the local Manhattan community to explore an extraordinary exhibition of student work. The event, aptly named "MADE in Manhattan," serves as a testament to the department's cutting-edge design-make curricula offered through its Master's degree programs in Interior Architecture (MIARC) and Industrial Design (MINDD).
The exhibit offers a comprehensive glimpse into the core facets of the department's curriculum, including Interior Architecture, Furniture Design, and Industrial Design. Each vignette highlights the remarkable talent and creativity nurtured within the IAID program.
Professor Nathan Howe, Head of the IAID Department, emphasizes the community-centric vision of the exhibit, stating, "How can we help our local community? Our students craft real-world solutions for today's and tomorrow's challenges. These solutions not only address known community issues but also extend to imaginative scenarios. We aim to bridge the gap by creating a Front Porch on Poyntz, enabling Manhattan to witness the exceptional creations 'Made in Manhattan' by our Interior Architecture and Industrial Design students and fostering meaningful connections with you."
The exhibit is located at the former Strecker Nelson Gallery Space in Downtown Manhattan, offering a central location for visitors. To mark the opening, a special kickoff reception will coincide with Manhattan's Downtown Art Walk on November 4th, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.
Guests can anticipate an immersive experience, engaging with full-scale furniture and product prototypes conceived and crafted right here in Manhattan. The Interior Architecture student work gallery promises to captivate with its visionary designs. For those seeking unique holiday gifts, a selection of event merchandise and products will be available for purchase. Furthermore, "MADE in Manhattan" collaborates with The City Girl Farm, owned by Sally Linville, a proud alum of Kansas State and the IAID department. The exhibit will host several Chicken Footstools, ready for adoption, bridging artistry with function in a delightful and meaningful way.
The exhibit will remain open to the community every Thursday to Saturday, 5 – 8 pm from November 4th through December 9th.
