About this Event
Casandra Monroe from the University of Texas at Austin will present a lecture titled, “Deformations of Geometric Structures” as part of the Mary Winston Newson Lecture series.
Abstract: In this talk, we aim to give an overview on the subject of (homogeneous) geometric structures on manifolds. We'll talk about (G,X)-structures, surfaces, knot complements, bending, flexing, and maybe even branching--but mostly we'll talk about a story that takes place in the intersection of geometric topology and the study of "discrete subgroups of Lie groups". There will be pictures!
