A reading and craft talk by fiction writer Shastri Akella.
 
Akella's debut novel, The Sea Elephants (Penguin India, Flatiron Books USA), was named a most anticipated debut by Good Morning America. He won the 2025 Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize, among other awards, and Lauren Groff selected his story for the 2024 Best American Short Fiction. He was a writing resident at the Fine Arts Works Center and the Oak Springs Garden Foundation. His writing has appeared in Guernica, Fairy Tale Review, CRAFT, The Masters Review, Electric Literature, World Literature Review, The Rumpus, and elsewhere. He earned an MFA in Creative Writing and PhD. in Comparative Literature at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He's currently Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Rhode Island.
