Selecting accessible course tools and materials is an important aspect of the upcoming Title II compliance. Digital accessibility is not something faculty have to take on by themselves! Textbook publishers and vendors are also working hard towards the April 2027 deadline.

This session is designed to help you understand the basics of Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs), what makes a good digital textbook whether it’s OER or a paid license, and how to spot red flags for noncompliance from digital accessibility tools that may prevent all students from being successful in your course.

• What makes online books and material accessible 

• How the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) inform accessibility compliance reports 

• How to spot green flags and red flags of VPATs and HECVATs (Higher Education Community Vendor Assessment Toolkit) 

• Where and when to conduct simple accessibility tests of digital tools you may have students use
