“35 Years of Field Crop Plant Pathology: Reflections of an Extension Plant Pathologist”
Bob Dylan sang, “Then you better start swimmin' or you’ll sink like a stone, for the times they are a-changin'.” Such has it been in my 35 years as an Extension Row Crops Pathologist. New technology, new communication tools, and new diseases has necessitated adoption of new methods at the risk of ‘sinking like a stone’ for failure to do so. The seminar will review row crop diseases new to Kansas in the past 35 years, others that have reemerged after being nearly dormant for an extended period, and a few that can no longer be found in the state. Along the way, Extension specialists have had to incorporate new technologies and communication methods into their roles as information providers in order to be better able to deliver educational programs to the county agents, agribusiness clientele and growers in the state.
