Join a presentation by Dr. Jessica Falcone and Jui Mhatre about the cultural aspects of storytelling and iconography in arts of India. Offered in conjunction with the exhibition Printing Beyond Borders: Contemporary Indian Prints at Kansas State University. Dr. Falcone will draw on her ethnographic work in India to discuss some religious and cultural themes that emerge from the artworks in the exhibition. She will discuss some of the religious iconography in the works to better contextualize the meaning that the artists may have hoped to express. Mhatre's performance presentation will explore storytelling in the classical Indian dance Bharata Natyam through the elements of movement vocabulary and art of expression to convey meaning. The program is free and open to the public.

Dr. Falcone is a professor of cultural anthropology in the department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work at Kansas State University. Mhatre is a performance artist and dancer and teacher in the genre Bharata Natyam. She works as Communications and Marketing Specialist at the Beach Museum of Art.
