Topology Seminar: Two different worlds - topological and smooth - Kansas State University Events

Speaker: Josh Drouin

The topological and smooth worlds are quite different in dimension 4. This is a topic that has been studied for decades, and in this talk, we will examine this difference via homotopy and homology groups of embedding spaces. In particular, we will show that there are large families of embedded spaces that are topologically the same but not smoothly the same. This talk should be accessible to a wide audience, and all are welcome!

This is a version of a talk that I will give to general STEM faculty at Florida Poly.
