About this Event
Speaker : Virginia Naibo, Kansas State University
Abstract : Fourier series stand as a classical topic in analysis. Since their inception in the eighteenth century in the study of the vibrations of a string, Fourier series have been fundamental for the development of the basic concepts studied in calculus courses (first encounter of students with analysis!) such as function, integral, series, convergence. We will take a brief tour of Fourier series and see them in action. As we do so, we will come across several areas in analysis beyond calculus and we will make links to the analysis courses offered by the K-State Mathematics Department.
